May 2018 News Round Up

Pre-production Jaguar XJ40 Silverstone Fire Tender

Welcome to the latest Xclusively Jaguar News Round Up!

This month’s cover picture features Phill Walter’s pre-production XJ40 which started life as a press car, was then converted to a police demonstrator, then to a race circuit fire tender, and finally retired to Jaguar Heritage, from where Phill purchased it.

It is one of 70 Jaguars and Daimlers that will form a Timeline and be part of a small Parade at Wroxall Abbey on 1st July 2018 to celebrate 70 years of the XK and 50 years of the XJ, respectively.

The chosen cars range from 12 classic XK sportscars from the 1950’s to a 2018 Jaguar XJ575 loaned to the JEC for the day by Chris Sturgess of Sturgess Jaguar of Leicester, the two distinctly different models from different time zones being neatly knitted together by an Aristocat XK120 replica built by the current owner in 1989 using 1970 XJ6 4.2 parts.

The remaining 58 cars (including the XJ575) will be made up of 53 XJ saloons and 5 XJ Coupes.

Most of these are JEC members cars – used and loved!

Ones to look out for on the day include the last RHD XK150 built; the oldest surviving XJ6; the oldest surviving XJ12; a 1992 Daimler Double Six, first owned by the late Sir Nicholas Scheele (former Chairman of Jaguar Cars) and now owned by Tony O’keeffe; an XJ40 Fire Tender; a pre-production prototype XJ40; an XJ40 ex-Police car; the last XJ Insignia built; and finally, the very last Daimler built.

Dear Letitia,

I have now received a hard copy of the article from Les on my 3 1/2 litre 1948 Jaguar. It seems to read quite well ! I had no idea he was in Australia and I have today sent him a lot of stuff about the car as it was first delivered directly new from the factory to Melbourne in May 1948! it is a small world.

kind regards and thanks again for arranging the publication,

Restoration Show 2018 Report

A really enjoyable and worthwhile weekend.

Thanks to you all for your good company and inviting me to the awards dinner where I could celebrate the Club’s success!

Congratulations to the whole Club for the recognition of our charitable efforts (which I feel was with more than a nod towards Windsor), Nigel for a well deserved and overdue award and well done David Marks for a great demonstration that always drew a crowd.

My expectation before the show was that my head and liver would be hurting but in fact it’s my feet!

Best wishes

David (Randall)

“The Best of Warwickshire, North and South of the Fosse Way”

The Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club Summer Festival at Wroxall Abbey on 29th June to 1st July includes the option of a Tulip style Rally created by Ann and Howard Hunt. Those who came to the XJ40 30th Anniversary Celebration at Dunkeld House Hotel in 2016 will remember that Ann was former head receptionist at Dunkeld House Hotel in the 1980’s and Howard was in charge of the Jaguar Press Fleet. They met at the hotel during the launch of XJ40 and as part of the anniversary celebration they created a suitable route for us to drive as a tulip style rally, based on the test route used by the International Press during the launch of XJ40.

Last year Ann and Howard created another tulip style rally for a very special and exclusive event based on the test routes used by Jaguar around Warwickshire in days gone by!

This year they have used these skills to create yet another route, which takes in some of these test routes. Brief details are listed below and are, as yet, unofficial. JEC members can enjoy taking part in this journey by visiting Jaguar Summer Festival 2018

Departures from Wroxall 9.30am till 10.30am

Cars arrive Burton Dasset 10.45am till 11.45am – half hour comfort and leg stretch break

Cars depart Burton Dasset all with the potential to arrive back at Wroxall by 3.00pm, including stops, but with the option of enjoying a more leisurely journey if preferred.

Briefly, the main features on the route include Sir William’s old home Wappenbury Hall; Burton Dasset; Edgehill; Compton Verney; Chesterton Windmill; a historic Vulcan V bomber; and Charlecote House.

Total route distance = 82 miles. Approximate driving time = 2 hrs 45 mins.

Full proper tulip, route description, and places of interest write ups.
