Group C cars in Action!
Three of Jaguar’s legendary Group C cars, including the 1987 Championship-winning
XJR-8, will be demonstrated during the XK70 Festival on 9-10 June. The event, which celebrates 70 years since the introduction of the ground-breaking XK120, will take place at Shelsley Walsh in Worcestershire – and the trio of sports-prototypes will join a packed programme of entertainment.
Open to all XK-engined Jaguars
Organisers are aiming to attract a record-breaking 700 XKs from around the world to the historic venue, including those rare examples that were re-bodied in period by some of the world’s finest coachbuilders, such as Ghia and Bertone. Also welcome are all other XK-engined Jaguars, including the Mk1 and Mk2, E-type and XJ6, plus more recent models such as the XK8 and F-type.
Hillclimb entries now open
Entries are now open for the competitive hillclimb, which will take place on the Saturday, while Sunday will be packed with memorable parades and demonstration runs – including the chance for enthusiasts to drive their own car up the hill. Le Mans winner Richard Attwood will be there, as will former Jaguar racers Peter Sutcliffe and Peter Sargent, plus the evergreen Norman Dewis.
Overhead, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will stage a fly-past, while a vintage fairground, shopping village and live music are sure to keep all members of the family entertained.
Discounted advance tickets start at £20, with under-16s getting in free when accompanied by an adult. VIP packages are also available. For more information, go to www.xk70.co.uk
International Jaguar XK Club
Formed in 1997 by Philip & Julie Porter, the International Jaguar XK Club is no ordinary motoring club. It has no committees, no concours events and no politics. The Club has members in over 50 countries and welcomes all owners and enthusiasts. The Club publishes professionally-produced monthly printed and digital magazines, edited by James Page, and has a wide range of events.
The XK120 launched the XK engine which powered the vast majority of Jaguars between 1950 and 1986, including the Mk2 saloons, the legendary E-types and the XJ6 saloons, to say nothing of tanks, armoured cars, fire engines and record- breaking power boats. For many, it is the greatest engine of all time.
XK120s were produced from 1948 until 1954 when succeeded by the XK140 which was followed by the XK150 in 1957, to be replaced by the E-type in 1961. Over 30,000 XKs were produced, with around 60% exported.
Located in Worcestershire, not far from the M5 motorway, Shelsley Walsh is the oldest venue of motorsport in the world still in use. Set in beautiful countryside yet within easy reach, it is the ideal setting for XK70.
