V8 Timing Chain Tensioners

Legendary for the inevitibility that they will break down, Jaguar V8 Timing Chain Tensioners, and Water Pumps are the subject of a presentation by Jaguar Specialist and sponsor of Xclusively Jaguar, David Marks.

As mentioned in the March 2017 News Round up, Rob Jenner and I spent the last weekend of February at David Marks Garages, helping to prepare for the Practical Classics ”Classic Car and Restoration ShowPresentation on the Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club stand at the NEC where David Marks will be demonstrating how to change AJ26 and AJ27 V8 Timing Chain Tensioners, a common problem which is relevant to all owners of X308 Jaguar XJ saloons (1997 – 2002).

The presentations will take place daily from 31st March to 2nd April.

To prove how easy it is, David and Rob let me loose with workshop tools and a V8.

With proper instruction, it is quite straight forward and even I was able to successfully change the timing chain tensioners!

As this issue of Xclusively Jaguar News goes out, Rob and I will be at the NEC Restoration Show with David Marks, as he gives his presentation on this subject.

David will also be demonstrating how to change the water pump (plus thermostat and housing) on the same V8, which is straightforward , and something else you can consider doing at home with simple tools and no ramp.
