- 18-day event successfully concludes at Goodwood
- Over 200 Jaguar E-types participated, with 70+ on final day

- Event mastermind Philip Porter drives whole 4,000-mile route in Italian Job E-type
- Almost certainly, the first time this has ever been done
‘I am elated, and relieved,’ says author Philip Porter who had the original idea. ‘We were pioneers, even in 2016, and it was no small challenge. This, above all, was a team effort with fabulous support from my E-type Club colleagues who did all the hard work, our sponsors, our VIP Supporters, the charity, Prostate Cancer UK, and over 200 E-type owners.
‘Everywhere we have gone, round the coast of Great Britain, we have been raising awareness direct with the public and through the media. And people have been amazingly generous. And we have had a lot of fun. Everyone wins.
‘We will certainly be doing it again next year.’
The weather was near perfect and the scenery, particularly in Scotland, was spectacular. Out of 150 hours of driving, Porter was only forced to raise the hood for just nine hours. Apart from the superb driving roads, other high spots included five-time Le Mans winner Derek Bell flagging the cars away at the start, lunch at Dunbeath Castle, Mary Sayer, daughter of the legendary E-type designer Malcolm Sayer, joining for a day, a reception at the amazing J.D Classics premises and Ross Brawn, of F1 fame, taking part on the last day.
Porter is not only celebrating his recovery from prostate cancer but also the publication of his 30th book, the first volume of his definitive biography of Sir Stirling Moss, which was launched at the Goodwood Revival meeting immediately prior to the start of the Round Britain Coastal Drive. ‘It is such a mammoth tome that a couple carried in the boot certainly kept the back end down!
‘This event was a wonderful way to see England, Wales and Scotland, sample places one has heard of but never been to, and discover so many quaint villages and stylish towns. Every day had its own character and special quality. Above all, there was a wonderful camaraderie as we all had a common cause and could use the fabulous E-type Jaguars, which we are lucky enough to own, for the good of men everywhere.’
‘If, like me, you’re a man who thrills at the prospect of handsome E-type Jaguars from all over the world making a historic round Britain trip, then please pause and consider the purpose of this extraordinary event. It’s to remind us to be aware of, and get checked for, prostate cancer. Please allow your thoughts to return to the beautiful motor cars on their great mission. A talented and modest man, who brilliantly runs our Club, with his team, has provided all with a way to do some good with our cars.
From a lifelong Jaguar fan, whose life will hopefully be a bit longer because of prostate cancer awareness.’
‘Though this is not a race, it sounds to me like a great event. I wish Philip Porter and the other crews a really enjoyable drive. May they be blessed with much publicity for this important cause. Go, Go, Go!’
‘What a fantastic adventure Philip Porter and the E-Type Club have embarked on, a round Britain coastal drive and all for Prostate Cancer UK. I wish all the drivers and their beautiful machines the very best of luck. I can only imagine the wonderful sight of that many cats together with that marvellous growl. I know you will raise a lot of money for this wonderful cause, and for that we should all thank you.’
‘As a Jaguar E-type owner I am delighted to be a Supporter of this unique event for a very good cause.’
