Club Expo Relaunch

Re-launched Club Expo a great success

Peter James Insurance – sponsor of the resurrected FBHVC Club Expo has described the event as a great success following feedback from clubs.

Held on Saturday 26th January 2019 at the British Motor Museum, the event was open to all member clubs of the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs, with free entrance.

Clubs were given the latest updates and overview of the historic vehicle movement from FBHVC chairman David Whale, including results of the Federation’s 2016 National Historic Vehicle Survey.

DVLA question time followed, before a range of guest speakers took to the podium to discuss a range of topics including planning for the future, the importance of data, cost of historic vehicle ownership, PR and social media.

Peter James Insurance’s Club Liaison Manager Greg Nock was among the guest speakers, leading a session looking at the pitfalls of club liability and the ever-increasing risks UK clubs are exposed to on a daily basis.

Bob Wilkinson, organiser of the Classic Car Loan Project was also in attendance to provide the latest updates on the blossoming initiative, which aims to attract the next generation of historic vehicle owners by offering them the chance to borrow a historic vehicle for a year. Cheryl Maybury, director of Peter James Insurance, which has worked alongside the FBHVC to support Club Expo’s re-launch, said she felt the event was of great value to clubs.

“Clubs rightly have a great deal of concerns at the moment about a number of issues threatening to affect the movement, so Club Expo’s return has come at just the right time – offering clubs access to a wealth of information and advice from experts in a range of fields, as well as somewhere to focus their questions,” she explained.

“Moreover, it enables themto liaise directly with the FBHVC team and provide the reassurance that their concerns are being raised and their needs championed at the very highest levels.”

She added: “There is just so much for clubs to think about and be aware of today – demonstrated by the response to our talk on club liability, which provoked so many questions and ‘I hadn’t thought of that’ comments.

“This alone highlights one of the many reasons why information-sharing events like Club Expo are so important in supporting those at the centre of the historic vehicle community.”

Commenting on the Federation’s partnership with Peter James Insurance, Chairman, David Whale said: “As our official insurance partner we were delighted that PJI stepped in to sponsor the revival of Club Expo. It was also very fitting that they played an active role in the sessions and engaged directly with the club officials throughout the day. It was an excellent demonstration of their dedication to the historic vehicle movement.”
