Jaguars at Lulworth Castle

The Wessex Car Show held on Sunday 9th June 2013 at Lulworth Castle invited entrants from all car clubs and was gratified with a huge response resulting in a wonderful selection of cars – English, Foreign, Modern, Classic and Vintage.

4 generations of XJ saloon

The show has grown considerably over the years and this new venue was hailed as the best yet, with Lulworth Castle being a noble and picturesque backdrop, and along with the perfect English summer weather encouraged a record number of entrants and visitors to this worthy event which is entirely for charity. Proceeds from the gate were supplemented by a raffle, which was understandably very popular, as visitors perused the 59 quality prizes on offer to the winners!

Swallow

There were literally hundreds of vehicles and motorcycles on display, numerous trade-stands, catering, live music and other entertainment. Entrants were advised to arrive early, as the gates would close once all the spaces were taken. Visitors arrived all through the day, with the added attraction of some discounted tickets for entry to the Castle itself!

4 generations of Sports coupes

The charities chosen to benefit from this amazing event were all cancer charities based in Dorset: The Jigsaw Appeal, Welmar Trust and About Face

SSII

Hosted by the Dorset Region of the Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club, the Jaguar marque was very well represented, as can be seen from the accompanying pictures. Four generations of XJ saloon and four generations of Sports Coupes, along with a Swallow, an SSII, a Mark 5, and the JEC raffle car, representing just a handful of the huge variety of Jaguars on display at Lulworth Castle.

Brucie meets an ancestor

I met the organizers, John and Sally Brewster, for the first time at a fuel station on the way to the Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club National Day at Weston Park in June last year, and here I was one year later, almost to the day, helping them as one of their working party, to set up and run an event that has taken a few dedicated Dorset Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club members months of painstaking organization to bring to fruition. I was proud to be part of that team, if only for a short while, and hope that all their efforts help to make a difference to the charities they have supported.

Many thanks to all those Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club members who devoted so much time and effort to make this event a resounding success!

Traders for next year are encouraged to make early application for this lucrative event, where hopeful late entries had to be turned away due to space limitations!

The Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club displayed their 2007 XK Drophead, which is the prize to be drawn at this years’ Classic Motor Show in November at the NEC in a raffle which is raising funds for Troop Aid
