An impressive field of twenty-eight Jaguars assembled for 20 minutes racing on the shorter Indy circuit. Qualification was exceptionally close with the first ten cars covered by less than a single second and holding out the prospect of a thrilling race.
James Ramm (left of picture) took pole position from David Howard with the much improved Rodney Frost in third. Tom Barclay (below), in his very quick XJ6 coupe, headed class B from Dave Bye (destined not to start due to crank failure) and Gail Hill.
Counter to recent form, Chris Palmer was seventh, whilst a troubled Lawrence Coppock, starting from the back, promised a storming recovery drive. We welcomed new entrant Micky Scoins in a distinctive car that has been produced as a Matchbox toys model.
Last race of a hot and sunny day as the large field bustled their way through Paddock and the traffic jam at Druids hairpin, testament to some excellent driving. David Howard took the lead to win at a canter from James Ramm, with Tom Barclay and Rodney Frost making up the top four places.
On lap six an XJS on the pit straight expelled its fluid and slid into the gravel at Paddock, leaving the car in a vulnerable position, and following drivers Gail Hill and Dean Sewell showed remarkable car control on the unexpected slippery surface. The race was stopped just as spectators were enjoying an exciting race and the premature end denied further progress to Lawrence Coppock who had clawed back eight places in just five laps.

Dean Sewell earned Drive of the day with a near faultless drive.
