A Personalized Watercolour for Christmas

Featured before, in Xclusively Jaguar News, Thomas Ahlander is a Swedish watercolour artist who predominantly paints classic cars. Last year I commissioned a watercolour portrait of Brucie my 1997 X330 4 litre Sovereign after seeing the standard of Thomas’s work.

Working with Thomas in deciding the best angle to portray my Jaguar, I have been impressed by his attention to detail. Rather than simply reproducing the photo I sent as a painting, as I believe some artists do, Thomas requested numerous details about the car and exact model, in order to do some research of his own. He then created a sketch of the car from an angle which he felt would portray the car to best effect. He even asked for the paint code, in order to get the colour exact!

In the past year, Thomas has received, among others, the two commissions shown here, both from readers of Xclusively Jaguar News. As you can see, each painting is entirely individual, created in its own unique style, according to the wishes of the owner, and covering the whole range of Jaguars from Classic through to Modern.

The paintings are mounted in white mats, 16 x 20 inches in size. The price for each painting is £190, including postage and handling.

From the originals, Thomas also creates prints (10 x 12 inch) for sale at £38 each, for those who would like to decorate their home with prints of original paintings rather than photographs. Subjects include E-types, Mark 2’s, Classic XK’s and an SS, all taken from previous commissions.

As an idea for a Christmas gift, this gives the option of something truly unique for someone special, or something a little different for a friend or relative, with an interest in Jaguars.

This year, I have recently commissioned another portrait of Brucie which is rather special, and will join 11 other Jaguar portraits from the Thomas Ahlander Collection in a calendar for 2014. It will be a very limited edition, designed as a Christmas gift for friends, and those who have commissioned a painting from Thomas Ahlander, but also available for sale by request.
