This elegant Mark 1 Jaguar, belonging to Brian Stevens, will be at next years gathering
Jaguar Mark 1 Day – 13th April 2014
Last year, keen Jaguar enthusiast Nigel Webb, opened his Mike Hawthorn Museum to Owners of Mark I Jaguars only, for a very special day, dedicated exclusively to this sadly overlooked model.
Next year, on 13th April 2014, he intends to repeat this event, and invites all owners of Mark 1 Jaguars to register their interest in attending by emailing Xclusively Jaguar or phoning 07836 687898
Relevant details will then be relayed to Mark 1 owners in due course. If you own a Mark 1 which is unlikely to be back on the road for next year, due to restoration or repairs, please quote the cars details (engine size, registration and chassis number) and you will be welcome to attend the event, without your car!
Although this memorable event is to be organised and financed entirely by Nigel Webb, it will launch an important year for the Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club, of which Nigel is a long-standing and well-respected member, and anyone who has been to one of Nigel’s events in the past will know to expect an unforgettable and well organized day! Aside from the Mark I Jaguars on display, other attractions will include access to the Mike Hawthorn Museum, along with talks from Norman Dewis and Win Percy, both important Jaguar figures, and honorary patrons of Xclusively Jaguar.
Initial response has been good, and a few unusual stories have already come to light.
Joel Mutton had his Mark 1 given to him by his father when he was only 7 years old! After displaying the car at a few events in the early 1970’s, Joel’s father placed it in storage for him, where it remained for over 35 years. A month or so ago, Joel had the car taken out of storage with a view to a sympathetic restoration, and was amazed at the coincidence of the Mark 1 Day being advertised just at this time!
The boy in the picture is Joel Mutton, who still owns the car 35 years on! Now a little older, both will be at Mark 1 Day next year!
John Dillamore purchased his Mark 1 from the Charterhouse Auction at Sherborne, only 3 weeks ago, and was delighted to see the invitation. The previous owner of this car came from Somerton in Somerset, and John would like to hear from anyone who knows anything about its history. Contact can be made by emailing Xclusively Jaguar or phoning 07836 687898.
Brian Devlin lives in New Zealand, but has pledged to attend the event without his Mark I. Pictures and details of those cars not in attendance will be on display, and we plan to photograph all the Mark I’s which are there, as a record and memento of the day.
Brian Devlin will attend, while his Mark 1 remains in New Zealand
